Roberts Point

Chad Post:

Most Everyone I've crossed paths with in my life has been nurturing and generous, and luck has always been on my side.  I am lucky to have the family and friends that I have, and a wife that is excited to superglue my bleeding foot.

I woke up on Wednesday worried about my foot.  I have six more days ahead of me lets see what happens.

As lame as it sounds Kristie wanted to hike up to the Roberts Point, which overlooks of the Franz Josef Glacier.  It doesn't get us much closer distance-wise than the hike we did the night before.  It gets us 1400 or so feet higher than our first view point, but we can't get on the glacier....meh...can't we find something better to do?

"Kristie, why do we want to do the same hike again? "

"1400 verticle, 100 meter long suspension bridge, 150 step cliff mounted staircase, slip to your death hike"

So we drive again up the the Franz Josef Glacier park and get packed.  Kristie super glues my foot and cuts a patch of moleskin for my boot.  My hurt foot works better than my good foot!!!  Lets roll.   I haven't decided where it is on my list yet, but this has immediately made the top five hikes of my life.  It was incredible, not so much for the view, but for the hike.

Putting the "Suspense" in Suspension Bridge

We go up just to go down again.

Ain't no thang.
This hike was pretty wild, but I always felt safe.  Nothing like that hike we attempted on Monday where I thought I would die on every step.  We made it up and down safely and headed back to Haast...it is the shortest route for us to get the Te Anau and the Milford sound...When we arrived in Hasst at 8:00 PM, we booked a hotel room.  It is the first time we haven't slept in the Van....it is our first normal bed in 7 days...power...shower...internet...laundry...the room cost 175 NZD....it is the best 175NZD we've ever spent!!!

  1. I'm shuddering at the thought at walking some of those bridges! Yikes!
